Qualified Teachers

Our line-up of Physics teachers consist of university graduates with good honours or Master’s Degree under their belt. In addition, they have a wealth of experience in conducting the lessons as they have been teaching for at least 5 years. With such credentials, our teachers are able to maintain the quality of the classes as proven by the results of our past students.

Conducive Classrooms

We want students to feel at home while learning. That is why we have fashioned our classrooms to provide ample space for students. The tables and chairs that are used are built for ergonomics but can be easily adjusted for any group work required during the lessons. All classrooms are also fitted with HDTVs to display our comprehensive lesson materials.

A Well-Crafted Syllabus

Students enjoy a well-crafted syllabus that is easy to follow. That is why we have established a team of reputed teachers who have written publications to help with the curriculum planning. Our team also ensures that our lesson plan is in line with the syllabus taught in schools every year. Our students can place their trust in the lesson materials that are both handy and easily accessible.

Student Improvement

Our main goal is for students to excel in the Physics examinations. To achieve that, we have implemented progress trackers to allow our tutors to keep track of our students’ performance and make adjustments accordingly to maximise the effectiveness of our classes. We are also in constant communication with parents to keep them updated. This also allows parents to provide prompt feedback about their children so that we can swiftly focus and tackle the students’ weak points in the subject. Students will then head for their examinations feeling confident and assured.

Thank you so much! I made it! I've made it to NUS

Class Fees

We cater 2 categories of classes, the (1) Standard Class & (2) Practice Class.

Standard Classes: Our standard classes (3-7 students) follow a standard curriculum where our teachers will go through the respective topics according to the pace of the students. Handouts and notes will also be disseminated to students over the course of the lessons.

Practice Classes: These classes are designed to help students apply concepts and theories taught in class to practice questions. Teachers will be present to serve as facilitators and clarify any doubts or questions that students might have while attempting the practice papers. The focus is to empower students in self-learning while still providing sufficient guidance.

  • All classes are once a week, 2 hours long
  • Fees are collected every 2 months (8 lessons), and are collected 3-weeks in advance
  • One-time $40 registration fee & $60 materials fee for new students
  • Payment by cash, cheque, or ibanking (using PayNow or FAST transfer)
  • 1st month is considered a trial period, students may stop at anytime (unused class fees will be refunded)

Lesson Breakdown

Our lessons are structured into (1) lectures, (2) tutorials, and (3) Q & A modules. We always start our classes with topics that have been covered in school as a refresher before moving on to new topics. The lectures will be supplemented with our own notes or examination guides. We like to follow up with tutorials to deepen our students’ understanding of the lectures. Practice questions will be provided to students to determine their areas of strengths and weakness in the individual Physics topics. Lastly, during the Q & A segment, students will be given the opportunity to clarify any problems faced in the subject. Our teachers may also get students to remain behind after the lessons if one-to-one feedback and coaching is required.

Curriculum Objectives

Our curriculum objectives are simple. We aim to motivate and encourage students to keep an open mind while learning Physics by introducing real life scenarios where Physics is applied and the future of Physics while striking a balance in adhering to the examination requirements. This allows students to enjoy learning the subject while still managing to score well in examinations. This not only boost students’ confidence but also empower them to excel in other subjects and other areas of life as well.

Our Commitment To You: Excellence In Teaching

Every student has untapped potential. We are dedicated to nurture and bring out the best in them. We also understand the individual struggles and are devoted to provide guidance to every student despite their different standards in Physics.

This initiative is achieved through the constant communication with existing MOE teachers, exchanging ideas with authors of Physics text materials in the industry and the consolidation of years of students’ work and school materials. We want to provide assurance to both parents and students alike that we will be there to guide students at each milestone and ultimately to perform at their very best at the national examinations of either O-levels or A-levels.

Very Small Class Sizes

What makes our centres stand out amongst our competition are our very small class sizes where we keep it to 3-5 students per class on average. For popular timeslots, especially on weekends, we cap it at a maximum class size of 7 students. This is to minimise potential disruptions when the class size gets too big and for teachers to better focus on individual students and give them the sufficient time and attention needed.

We observed that unlike large classes where quality is sacrificed, students are more proactive in the engagement of class discussions and raising of questions. They also form a deeper connection with their fellow classmates and that helps them to look forward to coming for our classes no matter how tiring their school day is. Most importantly, our findings reveal that students can progress more quickly and their results have a greater improvement.

Teacher-Student Meetings

We hold a monthly Teacher-Student Meeting with individual students. The session is meant to provide privacy and space for students who are afraid to voice out their questions or doubts in class. This is especially true in a group class setting, where students may feel pressured to keep the questions to themselves to avoid possible embarrassment of which they have no fault at all.

The meetings also provide a platform for teachers and their students to deepen the bond and build rapport with each other. This not only facilitates the teacher in being a better position to provide the appropriate teachings but also allow students to feel that their voices have been heard and  more reassured in the presence of our teachers

  • Monthly 1-to-1 Teacher-Students meetings are held
  • Every meeting is about 20 mins long
  • Allows teachers to offer personal feedback to students
  • Instils a more personalised relationship with students

5-Tier Syllabus Fits All Students

At The Physics Lab, we have introduced a comprehensive 5-Tier Syllabus framework to assist students in their studies. This framework is designed with progressive difficulty, where weaker students can work on tier 1 questions to build a strong foundation in Physics and the students who already have a strong base in the subject can work on tier 5 problems. Lesson materials have also been formulated based on this framework when we first started our company.

As students show improvement, they can progress to the next tier and this will help to pace our students accordingly so that they do not worry about not being able to keep up in class or find the class too slow and boring for their own tastes.

Supervising Each Student’s Progress

We see value in monitoring individual student’s progress so that we can adjust the pace of the lessons accordingly. Using the responses given in class and via their tuition assignments every week,  our teachers will spend some time compiling a progress tracker and note down constructive criticism and feedback together with areas of weaknesses and seek to resolve them.

Class Whatsapp Groups

For each new class, we will invite students into Whatsapp Groups so that students can share any questions they have about the class or homework assignment. Students are also welcome to share their ideas with one another. Teachers can better gauge each student’s areas of interest and come up a more ideal lesson plan to suit the students’ needs.

Updating Parents

Constant updates to parents will be done once every 1 to 2 months on the student’s progression. This is to ensure that parents can be aligned with us on ensuring that their children are well taken care of and doing well in class.
